Besides you, there are currently over 30,000 students enrolled at our university. Together we all represent the student body. This makes us by far the largest interest group at our university and we have a voice in many decisions. Student commitment can really make a difference!
As every year, the university-wide elections 🐳 are coming up again. From December 6 to December 8, 2022, you can vote for the Student Council, the Faculty Council, the Deputy Equal Opportunity Officers as well as the Senate and the Extended Senate via the various election booths on campus or by absentee ballot. Stand up for the interests of your fellow students, gather insight 👀 into the inner workings of the university, get to know committed people and hone your social skills in open discourse.
Getting started in student participation 📣 by joining the student council is very simple and requires no special knowledge.
The Student Council (FSR) is your student representation at the faculty. It represents all students of certain courses, which are combined to a student council. The FSR is the first point of contact for problems concerning your studies and supports the first semesters with an introduction week (ESE) at the beginning of their studies to help with orientation at the university. In addition to many events such as game nights or parties, the FSR offers useful tips and services, such as collections of exams, counselling services or a material rental service.
The student council consists of up to 21 members elected by you, who usually meet weekly. The members of the FSR send students to the student council (StuRa) and propose the student representatives for various committees of the faculty.
The Faculty Council is the highest and most influential body of a faculty. Here, the main organizational, financial and personnel issues are discussed and decided in monthly meetings. Among other things, it confirms the study documents that have been prepared by the Study Commission (StuKo) and organizes the appointments for professorships.
The chair of the faculty council is held by the dean. In addition to professors and representatives of the academic staff, the group of scientific support staff, and an equal opportunity commissioner, you are also represented by students, voted for by you.
In the department council, similar to the faculty council, all member groups from the department meet. This means that, in addition to student representatives, this body also includes professors, research assistants and technical and administrative staff. In addition, there is also the equal opportunity commissioner of the department.
Depending on the order of the department, the department council has different tasks. For example, it can decide on departmental study programs or decide on the further development of the department.
The Senate is the highest academic body of the TU Dresden. It makes fundamental decisions for the entire university, i.e. it determines its strategy and orientation. The introduction and dissolution of study programs is also decided here as a last resort. The Senate also has an important function as a platform for the exchange of information between the various departments, faculties, institutions and status groups.
These status groups make up, in varying proportions, a total of 21 members of the Senate with voting rights. As in all committees, the 11 professors entitled to vote have a majority of one vote as prescribed by law, the students and research assistants each have 4 representatives, the other employees 2.
In addition, other persons without voting rights belong to the senate. These include, for example, the rector, prorector, chancellor and the deans of the faculties as well as the central equal opportunity commissioner.
In addition to the Senate, there is also the expanded Senate. However, this body meets less frequently. It is responsible for the election and de-election of the Rector as well as for decisions about changes in the basic rules of the TU Dresden.
The rector is the chairman. Just like the prorector, the chancellor, the dean and the university's equal opportunity commissioner, is a member of the committee in an advisory capacity only. The 21 voting members of the Senate and the same number of representatives from the status groups belong to the expanded Senate. You elect the four student representatives and their substitutes.
There are equal opportunity officers at various levels of the university. The representatives of the faculties and departments are directly elected. Any member of the faculty or department can become the equal opportunity commissioner. This means that students can also run for office.
The equal opportunity commissioners are qua office members of the faculty or department councils and are also represented on the appointment committees. In addition, the equal opportunity commissioners are contact persons at their level for problems and questions in the area of equal opportunity work and organize and support projects and events as far as possible.
15 candidates (out of a total of 25 seats) are running for the student council.

Well hello there, I've already been in the FSR for a year and honestly I'm in so many committees and functions that it's less hassle to just vote for me again then to find new people for them. We'll see if I'm still up for this next year...

Hello :D I’m Kenny and this semester I thought to myself: “Hej its not like I have enough to do already, the FSR looks interesting let’s try it”. So I will do my best to be a good representative of the students interests while also filling up my schedule further

Hey there, I'm Johanna 🦆. I was already part of the iFSR last year and would like to be part of it again in the coming term 🐌. Like last year, my plans are to organize fancy events (like WillCodeForDrinks 🍹 or the faculty's summer barbecue). But I will also be on hand again to help and advise you with any problems around and during your studies and to stand up for you 🦈.
Ahoi, I'm Lyn, I've been in the iFSR for a year now and I stand for a faculty where everyone feels comfortable and welcome. So far, I've been part of the admin team working on modernizing the FSR's IT infrastructure and migrating to our new NixOS server. There will be more things to do and I would like to continue to advocate for you students, e.g. on the examination board.
Hello, I'm a proponent of Linux, FOSS and cultural exchange. I can see myself lending a hand to first year students. I like philosophy, competing histories, chess, speculative fiction, graph theory, distributed systems, my bicycle, animals and humans.

Heyhey, Eliah here - currently in my third semester bachelors of compsci and media. After helping with the famous ESE I'm now looking forward to representing you towards the professors and lending you an ear or more for your concerns :)
Hi! I stand for an FSR that is there for all students. In my opinion, student representatives should primarily deal with student affairs, be politically neutral and refrain from expressing political opinions. This would be my second term on the iFSR, in the current iFSR I work as a structurer.

Hey, I was also in the FSR last year and mainly took care of things concerning the Master's students. Besides that, I was also in the StuRa and did stuff in the public relations working group. In the coming term, however, I would like to concentrate more on teaching at our faculty, as originally planned.
Hey, my name is Norman and I'm in my first semester of computer science. I'm running to actively participate in shaping our faculty, organizing events and especially to be a voice of this year's first-year students in the iFSR. I am open to your questions, wishes and criticism and hope for your support in the election.
Two representatives can be elected to the faculty council. One additional person can be given a substitute seat. The list order defines the seating.
Hi, I'm Jakob and after three years in the FSR I want to get involved with the faculty board.
Hello, my name is Tassilo, I am campaigning against an overbearing administration and for more cooperation between teaching/research staff and the student body. The University and especially our faculty has great potential, which I want to develop and bring forth.

I‘m currently on exchange in Norway but nonetheless I want our faculty‘s students to be represented in the faculty council (worst case I‘ll join digitally) which is why I‘m running together with the three other students. We met during our time served together in the iFSR (Informatics faculty’s student representatives) which is why I’m convinced that we’ll work greatly as a team.
Four representatives each can be elected in the Senate and the Extended Senate.
Hey there, I'm running for senate on the "Offene Fachschaftenliste" (independent and for all)! I'm campaigning for green accessible campuses welcoming you to linger. Jointly with the current senators, I'm committed to create a sustainable TU Dresden. I wish to continue pursuing this vision in senate myself. For this, need your vote! You can read up on our coalition's goals at https://tud.vote :)
Hi, I'm Fay (they/them). After one year of being a member of our unis senate I want to build upon my work of the last year in the extended senate. My main goal is a university that takes equity serious. Every member of our university, no matter if queer, disabled, mentally ill, affected by racism, etc. should be able to participate in uni life. I stand and fight for a diverse and inclusive uni!
Hi! Last year I was already a voice for us students in the extended senate. There they want to change the fundamental principles of the TU Dresden at the moment. This not only allows us to update dated language and include gendering but also fight for new claims like a civil clause, more sustainability and a student in the rectorate at our university.
